The Last Stand for Animals
“I wish it need not have happened in my time, “ said Frodo.
“So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” –J.R.R. Tolkien, Lord of The Rings Trilogy
It should surprise no one that the times we currently find ourselves in, are beyond comprehension. For myself, and so many people who take such unfettered joy in sharing the planet with such breathtaking species; the outlook is worse than bleak. It ‘s critical. The planet and her glorious animals are dying and there feels like there is nothing we can do.
Many of us have spent too many years counting on international organizations, well known charities and government to come to the aid of our precious nature only to be disappointed time and time again.
I didn’t want to live through these times.
No one who cares for the environment, for the lives of innocent animals, people, wildlife, open spaces and nature wants to be alive to see it all defiled, broken and polluted, not one of us.
But here we are.
The question we must ask ourselves is “why”.
Why are you and I here today, right now, on this planet that grows more toxic and hostile by the day?
We are here because we, you and I, my animal loving friends, are it.
We are, the last stand, in the last battle for the last species on earth.
From New Hampshire to Scotland, Australia to Brazil.
We are the last defenders of animals, and as the darkness closes in, we need to gather our wit, resources and resilience and be prepared to take a stand.
Take action, concrete, off line, action, to save this planet and her animals.
It’s easy, in a world with a 24/7 news cycle, to spend way too much time in front of our computers, isolated, being confronted with daily horror, but I encourage you, gentle friends, let go, get out, walk in the park, listen to the birds singing. Travel!
If that trip to Africa or South America is on your bucket list, don’t delay,
take an ethical trip; visit our wild spaces while you still can.
Join a peaceful protest! Live and in person! Meet other people who can cry and rail and force change with you.
NOW, is the time to unleash all of that cumulative compassion and animal love that has been growing and percolating in your soul and get out into the world and make your difference.
That last battle is here and like it or not, you and I are the final defenders. No superheroes are coming to save us.
It’s just you and me and billions of people who love animals and want to protect them.
Get out of the door, meet some people, take a stand.
