Renew & Recharge- 2020 Kenya & Thailand Departures!

I don't know about you, but for me, 2019 passed in a flurry of activity, some of it great and some of it not so great. Between expanding Arte for Elephants art business and all of the growing pains associated with that, the loss of my mother to Alzheimer's disease, planning and executing not one but three different retreats, It was truly a case of

"blink and you miss it".

Somewhere in between the loss of my mother, arriving in Thailand and deciding that I do need to hire an assistant, it hit me that I wasn't actually living, I was just working REALLY hard. Now, don't get me wrong, Arte for Elephants is our baby, and I love every second I spend on it (well maybe not the accounting part) but I had fallen into that trap of "working" and "doing" every second rather than just --being.

By the time David and I arrived in Kenya to host our Big Elephant Magic Safari Retreat, I was just holding myself together long enough to get from one day to the next, stressing and planning and, of course- working.

As we rolled into our stunning campsite in the foothills of Masai Mara National Park, I had forgotten what the whole purpose of our adventure was, to recharge, reflect and above all to be present.

Enter, elephants.

Fortunately for me (and I suspect our retreat guests as well) nothing on earth is more centering than being, quite literally, away from it all in the heart of wild Africa. Wifi free and detached from the savage 24/7 news cycle, our rustic camp under the star studded sky turned out to be just what the doctor ordered.

Somewhere between the spectacular African sunrise, the fresh air pulsing all around me, the chatter of the hyena and the roar of the lion, it hit me, wild animals are always present.

Simply put, surrounding yourself with nature whether in your local park or the heart of Africa, is one of the most sure fire ways to recalibrate and recharge. Nature doesn't worry about its boss, its taxes, its housework, it simply is.

Couldn't we all use a bit more of that?
